How long should my horse eat?

How long should my horse eat?

Extended feeding time

In order to have quick access to energy, horses store energy in the form of glycogen in their muscles. This glycogen storage can be compared to the battery of a smartphone. For millions of years, horses have had a very slow energy absorption. Therefore, the battery in the muscles of horses is adapted to charge energy slowly. Horses kept in stables are usually fed two to three times a day. If we add up the time that horses spend eating, we arrive at just over three hours. This is like charging a smartphone that is plugged into a strong power source in the hope that it will charge in minutes instead of hours. You will not succeed in doing this, and you will most certainly damage the smartphone's battery.

Ideal feeding time for horses

Always try to extend the time of feeding. We cannot expect to get more energy by feeding concentrated energy sources - such as starchy grains . We should always try to give horses as many meals as possible and choose a feed that extends the time of feeding.
